Learn How To...

APPLY CHALK TO A STAMPED IMAGE

First stamp your image using a VersaMark or a clear embossing ink pad - I prefer to use a VersaMark because it's slightly stickier.  Then, load up a cotton wool ball (the sort you use to remove make-up) with the colour chalk of your choice. You can achieve this by rubbing the cotton ball in a circular motion in the chalk pan.

To apply it, use a tapping motion on top of the image. Don't be tempted to rub it - you are working on a wet image and it will smear if you rub it. Feel free to keep reloading your cotton ball - you can't really over-chalk an image because the wet ink will only hold as much chalk as it needs.

Continue doing this until you see the image appears clearly.

Once the whole of the image has been covered with the chalk, you can then safely use a clean cotton ball to wipe the area clean. It may leave a very soft background colour but I think this enhances the result.

Experiment by using several different colours of chalk in stripes on the same image - almost like a rainbow effect - for a different result. Or try rubbing chalk into your card stock first before stamping your image and then follow the instructions above to give yet another effect.

Also, try using different types of chalks - glimmer or shimmer chalks are lovely, leaving a pearlescent finish.
If you wish, you can lightly spray your finished image with a fixative (hair spray is a cheap solution) to stop the chalk from rubbing off.
